Higher-than-usual water bills and a musty smell in the bathroom are usual examples of signs of a leak. The faster a leak is identified and discovered, the better. Water damage can cause all sorts of problems, such as material deterioration and mold. Water can cause wood to swell, rot, and sweat. It can also damage your walls and sheetrock creating perfect conditions for mold and mildew to develop as these fungi enjoy damp, dark places. Water can also ruin furniture, carpets, and rugs incredibly easily and should be dealt with promptly.

Remember that water damage can grow in severity quickly, especially with our humid summers, which can cause more damage to your home. Therefore, it’s important to deal with water damage right away.

While part of the dry-out process includes extracting water, that is not the only task that needs to be performed. Water damage can be hidden and sometimes very complex to dry out. What may seem to look dry may have water damage underneath, which can cause mold to develop and cause deterioration.

Before doing anything, it’s good to get pictures of the incident for your records before you begin to clean and make a list of damaged items and areas. After doing this, there are a few things you can do, such as mopping up excess water and opening windows.

As willing as you may be to clean it up and call it good, there is no way to know for sure if the water damage is cleaned completely. Professional Restoration companies such as ABS Restoration have the tools, expertise, and knowledge to ensure your home is safe, dry, and free from water damage.

If you don’t completely dry out the materials affected, as early as 24-48 hours after the water leak occurs, microbial growth (mold and mildew) can easily grow, and it will continue to grow until it’s resolved, leading to more damage down the road that can affect occupants health and the indoor air quality.

Disasters never happens at an opportune time, and we know that. Our availability and dedication are one of the reasons that ABS Restoration is proud to lead in water damage restoration by independent companies.
